How to sell gold online?
You can sell gold online from any of the 50 states through our insured mail-in program: submit a short form, receive a free prepaid mailer, ship your gold to our refinery, and get an offer by phone, email or text that you can accept or decline. There is no store visit and no cost to you at any step.
How the process works
- Submit the form at our mail-in gold and jewelry page describing what you want to sell: bullion coins or bars, rings, chains, bracelets, watches, dental gold, broken pieces or scrap.
- Receive your mailer. Once approved, we send a free, carrier-approved mailer with a prepaid shipping label, insured up to $1,000 as standard. Higher coverage is available on request before you ship, so ask if your gold is worth more than that.
- Pack and ship. Include your name and contact details, seal small items in a bag so they cannot shift, and drop the package at a staffed carrier location. Keep the receipt with the tracking number.
- Evaluation. Our refinery in Salem, Oregon weighs and tests each item for purity. Bullion is priced as bullion; jewelry and scrap are priced on actual gold content.
- Your offer. We deliver it by phone, email or text, and standard offers hold for 14 days so you have time to decide.
- Payment or return. Accept, and payment typically arrives within 1 to 3 business days. Decline, and we return your item with free insured shipping. From the package arriving to payment going out is usually about 3 to 5 business days.
What you will be paid
Every offer is based on a live feed of the international gold market; spot gold is currently around $4,287.46 per troy ounce, and you can watch it on our live gold price page. We publish payout rates close to the live spot price on gold bullion and based on the metal content we measure on gold jewelry and scrap. The exact figure depends on the product, purity, condition, volume and market conditions, and no rate is guaranteed. Because we are the refinery itself rather than a middleman reselling to one, there is no extra layer between you and the melt value.
Tips for selling gold online safely
- Photograph each item and note any hallmarks and weights before you pack, so you have your own record.
- Never ship gold in a plain envelope or through a drop box; use the insured mailer and hand it to a clerk.
- Be wary of any online buyer that charges evaluation or return fees, will not put an offer in writing, or pressures you to accept immediately. A legitimate offer should hold long enough for you to compare it against the spot price.
- Leave stones in place; we buy all diamonds, loose or set, so they can be valued along with the gold.
Whether you are sending a single ring or a collection of coins, the process is the same and everyone is treated the same. If you have questions before you ship, call or message our team through the contact page. Start your online gold sale here.
