What do MM and Carat Mean for Gems?
MM (millimeters) is the most common way for gemologists to measure the physical size of your gem. It is usually the width or diameter of your gemstone.
Carat is the weight measurement used for gemstones like diamonds. Since carat measures mass, it does not necessarily measure size. So, for example, with a diamond and a ruby of the same size, the ruby will have a higher carat value because it is more dense. One carat is equivalent to 200 mg, or 0.2 grams.
