Overview
The 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle is a popular fractional gold bullion coin minted by the United States Mint since 1986. These coins are guaranteed by the US Mint and Treasury for their weight and authenticity.
Each 1/2 oz Gold Eagle contains 0.5454 troy oz (16.965 g) of 22k gold, with the remaining 8% composed of silver and copper alloy to increase durability. The coin has a face value of $25 and features the iconic Lady Liberty design on the obverse.
The reverse design has undergone two changes since the coin’s inception. From 1986 to 2021, it depicted a family of eagles protecting their young, designed by Miley Busiek. In 2021, the US Mint introduced a new reverse featuring a close-up side profile of a bald eagle, designed by Jennie Norris.
Choosing the “random year” option allows you to receive an exceptional price over spot, although specific dates cannot be guaranteed. The coins offered in random years are dated from 1986 to the present. Fractional Gold Eagles are a popular and affordable way to diversify into gold.
